Okay, I finally got the nvidia driver installed, and I have everything updated. But when I restarted it, Gnome doesn't show up. It shows that graphical login, and then it goes to the screen with like a purple-ish background, a terminal in the middle and a little why box in the top left corner that has buttons for session, checklist, shutdown, and one other thing. And when I hold down the left mouse button, there is a drop down box of a view commands. I was able to run programs. Why is this happening and how do I get it back to having gnome boot up. Before I logged in, I picked it to load into gnome too. Oh, I have redhat 8.0.

Sounds like GNOME is not starting properly, and therefore it has entered the default WM, TWM.

Trying starting from a console, and see if there are any GNOME related error messages.

I got it working, but I had to reinstall linux. I think that was happening because I installed the nvidia driver while I was in a terminal while running gnome.
