Hi,
I downloaded the majority of KDE 3.1 for suse 8.0. I did this in XP and burned them to CD. The remainder I downloaded in suse. Following the install instructions (arts first, libs second, then remainder of the package last) First issue was a dependancy called Alsa? I can find no reference to this anywhere. Next was the Query of the RPM package failed in Kpackage, on all RPM's. Reading around I found that it may have been a data transfer error from CD to HDD, so I set up the CD in bios as instructed. Changed from Auto to CD/DVD and pio mode 0. Still no luck. Anyone had a similar problem and how did you solve it? I would hate to have to download the lot again.

Alsa is the Alsa sound system.

It replaces the openOss drivers that come with the kernel with slightly more complex, more complete sound driver support.

I don't use packages so I can't help much with your system ( I build from scratch on Slackware...) but go here for alsa info

http://www.alsa-project.org/

Also .. the build order is
Arts
Libs
Base
Then everything else
kdemultimedia second last
kdebindings last
The bit about multimedia and bindings is from personal experience ... I've found occasional odd results if I build multimedia before certain other packages...
