Installing GNOME 2.2 over GNOME 1.4

Hello

I'm still pretty new at this Linux thing and I was just wondering can I install GNOME 2.2 over top of GNOME 1.4 or do I have to remove GNOME 1.4 first? Any help would be appreciated.

It'd probably work okay to upgrade to 2.2, but it may be just as easy to just do a fresh install of 2.2. You can always use an alternative desktop environment if you want to make sure you still have a GUI during the process. Uninstall all the 1.4 stuff, then install 2.2.

Warning: I am just guessing. I haven't personally tried this :)

Thanks much. I don't want to mess anything up so I'll just remove 1.4.

I've been reading here on Gnome 2.2, and I would read up on it before doing anything.
