While I was in the Library today picking up Aldous Huxley's Moksha: Writings on Psychedelics and the Visionary Experience, I caught a glimpse of a book titled 1985. Intrigued, I picked it up and glanced at the inside of the cover. It seems to be a book written by Anthony Burghess (A Clockwork orange), in which the first part is some kind of essay or analysis of George Orwell's 1984, and the second part being a story that is described as his answer to 1984. If it is a sequel or a different vision of the future, I'm not sure.
I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to read this book, and I would be interested in any insight. thanks.

Ummmm, books?
Unless it's Perl - the ultimate guide or C++ for eggheads, I don't think anyone reads here :p

I've never read it. I've been meaning to reread 1984 (haven't read it in years), but I was too busy reading stuff for classes.
That term Moksha is very familiar, but I can't seem to put my finger on it...
And its Perl, you insensitive clod!

Indeed, I just finished reading 1984 (amazingly, I finished it in 3 days. I suspect I've begun to read faster) and I picked up the Huxley book to collaborate on my LONG paper that is due March 3rd.
Moksha is a psychedelic drug that used by the fictional utopian culture in Island as part of thier spiritual activities. As for the real world origin of the word, I know that it is derived from an ancient Sanskrit text; but I have no idea as to what it means.

moksha (noun)
liberation: rescue, redemption, salvation, moksha, deliverance
Hindus believe that internal karma can be counteracted by atonement and rituals, by "working out" through punishment or reward, and by achieving release (moksha) from samsara through the renunciation of worldly desires

EXCELLENT!! Nice way to tie in Huxley's writings to Fight Club.

You'll have to clue me in here. I kept falling asleep during this movie. I saw pretty much the whole thing. Well in bits and pieces that is.
