I honestly think that Saving Private Ryan is one of the better war movies ever made.

Of course... I also like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and I got the Band of Brother DVD set for Christmas.

For classics, I always liked naval or air battle movies... Sink the Bismarck and the like.

Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, and too many to even think of!! In my opinion, war brings out the most extreme emotions and greatness.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead! In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility; But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.
--William Shakespeare King Henry V , Act 3 scene ?

Full Metal Jacket...

hehehe...couldnt help, sorry.

"
If you ladies leave my island, if you survive
recruit training ... you will be a weapon, you
will be a minister of death, praying for war.
But until that day you are pukes! You're the
lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even
human ****ing beings! You are nothing but
unorganized grabasstic pieces of amphibian
****!

Because I am hard, you will not like me. But
the more you hate me, the more you will
learn. I am hard, but I am fair! There is no
racial bigotry here! I do not look down on
niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you
are all equally worthless! And my orders are
to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack
the gear to serve in my beloved Corps! Do
you maggots understand that?"

Lol...just saw carraja's post...my quote isn't exactly William Shakespere material. :D

Johnny Got His Gun (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0067277)

How often do you get a movie where the main characture gets blown to pieces in the first 10 minutes :D

Apocalyse Now... that movies awesome. Scary, but really cool. Saving Pt. Ryan had some really good scenes but I thought the plot was weak in place.

War Games
A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
--WOPR - In the movie "War Games" after learning the futility of "playing" Global Thermonuclear War by playing a seemingly endless series of games of Tic-Tac-Toe with itself.

When you have been in the real thing, war movies are either laughably inaccurate, or bring up very unpleasant memories. What most people don't realize is that it will make you a murderer, regardless if it is "government sanctioned". It isn't something that one can live with very easily. Or forget for the rest of your life.

Yes. Two tours in Viet Nam. '71-'72 and '72-'73. I was one of the last ones out. First tour as a grunt, second as a sniper.

Somoene broke into my parents home and stole my dad's medals from Nam. :(

How low can you go? Of course, I don't no which person is lower... the one who stole them, or the one who buys them? Does the buyer put them up in his house and claim he was in war when he wasn't or... ???

I thoroughly enjoyed We Were Soldiers, but I'll probably never watch it again. Some of it was just too much.

I find it amazing that it's not just stuff that we make movies about these days, but some of the scenes in these movies are every bit as real and only a taste of what happened out in the field. Hats off to the men who lived what we now watch for eterntainmet. :(

I didn't know if Schindlers list was appropriate, but it is by far my favourite war-related movie.
Truly chilling, and some exellent acting.

GeekGuy

Why not appropriate - it was closer to the real war than any other movie mentioned so far.
