I had the biggest headache/fever. I almost cried. :D Then i took some gatorade and Tylenol liquid and rented a movie from BlockBuster and it was gone...oh yeah i vomitted air too. :D GeekGuy 02-05-2003, 10:20 PM If normal and prescription drugs fail - the litre of brandy won't :D Penrich 02-06-2003, 01:00 AM Personally, i prefer whisky to brandy. With just a tiny splash of water. Works for colds, flus and pretty much anything else! Purely medicinal, of course. GeekGuy 02-06-2003, 01:18 AM Originally posted by Penrich Personally, i prefer whisky to brandy. Alas, my favorite brand of whiskey is no longer available in Western Canada - Antique :D tankinan 02-06-2003, 02:09 AM Aprodine - The mother of all cold medicines. Codiene mixed with the most powerful, efficent decongestant you could imagine, all in a convinent little pill. Brutally strong, you'll be walking on sunshine for a solid 8 hours  carrja99 02-06-2003, 02:10 AM Personally, I perfer downing a bottle of some good ol' cold medicine from 1908. You know, back when they didn't even know what the heck they were doing and had codine and cocaine in children's cough syrup. Hmmm... all the aging of it really does the trick! DjTeriyake 02-06-2003, 02:24 AM I'm pretty suprised that I haven't received a cold or flu this season yet....last I can remember was a year ago when my roomate gave me mono. These days I'm kickin' it mostly in a dorm full of sick infested college slobs, all talking about Flonase and NyQuil. Maybe it's the gym does it... Best I can say is get your vitamin C and your protein from foods and not supplements or pills, and workout a bit to boost the immune system. Can O' Beans 02-06-2003, 02:42 AM I would agree. Preventative aspects, like proper health & nutrition will help a lot more than "cover-up medicines" like mentioned earlier. I haven't got sick in about 10 years, but when I do, I drink tons of water - part of the body's natural filtration system ;) bosox79 02-06-2003, 03:33 AM Originally posted by Can O' Beans I would agree. Cures what ails you. For nighttime, I use old reliable Nyquil. It works no matter HOW bogus it tastes. Silent Bob 02-06-2003, 05:17 AM Originally posted by bosox79 1. get plenty of sleep, your immune system is weakened if you are constantly tired The b'stard of a head-cold I have right now insists on waking me up at least twice a night. Currently I'm trying to kill him with exercise, water, Lockets and Lemsip... I usually just hope that places, where i am has paper that i can use to blow my nose. Other than that pretty much nothing. mrBen 02-06-2003, 06:02 AM Nurofen Cold 'n' Flu tablets, a few litres of Orange juice, and a day in bed normally works it all out for me. bogler 02-06-2003, 06:08 AM Whisky, honey, hot water. Has to be Scotch whisky none of that US **** ;) El_Cu_Guy 02-06-2003, 10:18 AM Actually the reason you get sick is your immune system over reacting. It's not the virus or infection itself. Let it run it's course and minimize medication which actually will only prolong the time it takes for you body to heal itself. It will also reduce the number of times you get sick again from the same or slightly similar viruses. Your body's immune system has memory cells. Your best bet is to help your own system. Plenty of fluids and the right vitamins like C and Calium along with D (which helps your body absorb more calcium) magnesium is also good. Through this practice I rarely ever get sick because my body fights off everything so easily. Note: A high fever is nothing to laugh at. While your body will raise it's own temperature to slow down infection sometime it overreacts. Too high a fever can even be deadly. sasKuatch 02-06-2003, 12:05 PM I usually feel better at the computer. The heat blowing off my overclocked chip does wonders as does the mild radiation from the monitor. With the heat must come fluids or you'll fall over like a dried out crisk. All over the counter medicines like NyQuil/NightNurse do is mask the symptoms like fever and headache. (There is no cure for the 'flu (or any viral infections), so don't be going to your Dr asking for antibiotics anyway - they wont work). I don't know if there is any evidence that it makes your immune system less strong, or that it takes longer to recover. Anyway - you guys who never get sick obviously do not have young children who go to day care... gcon 02-06-2003, 03:29 PM I drink lots of orange juice and water. Other than that, I just tough it out and don't complain. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I am a firm believer in this. I think it is because I avoid OTC medications that I rarely get sick. mrussel1 02-06-2003, 03:30 PM I invented a new remedy the other day... I've never taken it while I was actually sick. I was looking at the bottles of liquor we had, and lamenting the fact that we had nothing to mix it with... So I came up with Rumilua! It's Rum, Tequila, and Kahlua. Mix in about equal parts or to taste (I go a little heavy on the Kahlua). For twenty or thirty minutes, I felt great, ready to take on the world... then, I was ready to go to sleep. Take two, and call me in the morning! ferreter 02-06-2003, 03:34 PM Originally posted by jgr220 I was just wondering what most of you do for colds and flu's Right now I'm a hot brandy tottie, later I'll be a nyquil.:( I take a mulitvitamin every day and if I feel in any way that I'm getting sick I take several vitamin Cs, an Iron, and a calcium pill (all antidioxants) to help my body fend it off. If I actually get sick (its been a LONG time) I double the above dosage. Sure it makes my pee glow in the dark but it works :) Edit: Oh I take zinc as well. jgr220 02-07-2003, 04:39 PM Mrussel1 that rumilua would make a billy goat puke. I used to get a pint of vodka and a half galon of OJ and drink till both were gone get in bed fall asleep and in the morn you feel great or you get a hangover and forget about the flu. A freind of mine makes this Italian moonshine called grappa about 190 proof maybe I'll try that :D justlinux.com
