Hi there,
I need to setup a network that connects two computer- one runs mandrake 9, the other one Mac OS IX.
Is there anybody out there who has some experience with setting up such type of network?
Your help is highly appreciated.
thanks,
ariell.
The only thing I know about it is you'll have to find a utility that will allow you to convert AppleTalk into TCP/IP. Try a Google search, or possibly Version Tracker.
I think you mean MacOS_9_, by the way ;) .

you guys, thanks for that hint. Gonna check out google. Also, converting AppleTalk sounds plausible. Unfortunately, I have definitely no experience with Mac.
And: Yes, I mean Mac OS 9.
Best & thanks,
ariell.

you have to configure AppleTalk on the Mandrake box.
How to do that, that is different. I dont know.
How to share resources over Appletalk on the mandrake box, I don't know. But I do know how to connect the MacOS 9 to an AppleTalk network. If you want help with that give me a yell.
Nathan.

Hi Nathan,
to be honest: I neither know anything about an AppleTalk Network nor how to connect a Mac to one. So any help comes in handy.
So far I thought to connect via a hub and "that is it".
Please tell me more 'bout this network stuff,
thanks and Shalom,
ariell.

AppleTalk is a protical that runs over the ethernet cables, like SMB. To setup the Mac for AppleTalk, you need to activate the AppleTalk option in Chooser and change the Appletalk options in the control pannel.
Basically think of Appletalk as Apple's form of pier to pier networking.

Hope this puts you on the right track.
