I've spent much of the afternoon reading Slashdot and a couple of other boards where flames and dissension are the norm, and I just felt the need to say something nice...

I'm a devoted Slackware user. I have tried Mandrake, Debian and Gentoo without being persuaded to change. This could be the start to a flame, but here we go:

Mandrake users: I love your focus on the desktop and GUI tools. I don't personally feel that I need them, but I can understand how it is good for Linux when people have an easy time of it.

Debian: I love your commitment to your principles. It's hard to turn your backs to commercial software, and although it may be difficult to live without Realplayer and such, you stand by your ideals. Because of Debian-folk, Linux will never be co-opted by corporations.

Gentoo: I love the enthusiasm of you Gentoo users. You can always count on a "gentoo rocks" post to bring cheer to any discussion of optimizations and cutting-edge updates.

I call on my fellow geeks... lay down your flame throwers... what can you say positive about people that you've disagreed with?

I disagree with everyone...

My distro is the best.

My God... How did it get up to that?

No comments... G4L

:)

Now that I'm officially a moderator in /dev/random, I guess I can start padding my post count.

Same goes to everyone in /dev/random ;)

.............

IT'S MY ONE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVELENTH BIRTHDAY!! <yeaaah!!>

<-------------------

edit: all religion threads in specific, share the love not the flames :)

onto the distros:

debian: hey I'm using it ;) ,
redhat: I like the way they slapped kde and gnome into one, well done facelifting the interface and it's now much easier to use.
slackware: this is hardcore, like gentoo, it's fast!
lycoris: it's a good attempt in getting the interface look like windows, we need more crew members in the 'unsinkable'.
gentoo: I have'nt the time to try this yet but from the positive responses I've seen, it's done a great job.

Dammit. I'm down in number 19.

<cue Rocky music, speak through gritted teeth>Must....make....top....10......</cue>

Oh, and otbibb, FYI a lot of Debian users do not 'do without' commercial software, it just doesn't come as standard in their base distro.

And now to share my bit of love:

Lindows: Well done for making the first steps. Hope you make it through the flames, and out the other side :)

Xandros: I really hope your distro takes off big time - it will be good to have a 'commercial' Debian on the market after Storm and Progeny pulled out.

SuSE: Respect to your huge distribution with great manuals :)

Puff, puff to my count... i'm far behind others... sniff

Well i'd like to try out Gentoo (when i get my cable to home...). Perhaps Sorcerer too if it exists, although idea in that is same (well somewhat) as in Gentoo.

RH 7.1 and 7.3 are quite nice. Used only them so far. I don't like the bluecurve in RH8.0, but the idea behind is good. Just don't like the implementation :).

Debian seems to be nice, but can't compile from source in that. I mean that tarballs yes, but not with apt. I haven't used debian, but seen it used.

Gentoo does rock indeed!
I didn't think it possible but i am now a devoted Gentoo user, once it is installed and configured it is hard to beat and portage takes the pain of installation away, it can be slow but all good things ....

On the flaming angle, i have flamed a couple of times here but don't generally tend to flame as i know how daunting it can be to get Linux going.

So i suppose, apologies to those i have flamed and, well, i love you all, sniff sniff.

big shouts to Caldera for getting me hooked, Redhat for bringing me upto date and Mandrake for adding a bit of desktop gloss.

Here's to the peanut I never installed, and hats off to the Slackware that kicked my *** and showed me what time it was (boyee).

And thank you all for helping. *crowd goes wild*

14.....I wonder how high it would be with my other two accounts(one abandoned, one borked)?
