Been trying to change screen res on KDE Mandrake 8.1. I know about ctrl alt +/- and about the XF86Config files (I dont really want to mess around with those cause I dont know much about monitors). dpkg does not seem to be in my distro (?) and there is nothing in configuration->hardware or anywhere it seems in Mandrake to change the res. Is there an easier way for me than editing the XF86Config file?

you should have some tools like Xconfigurator or xf86config
$ which Xconfigurator , it should be in /usr/X11R6/bin/ directory, try those.
$ su
# Xconfigurator

Have got xf86config, reluctantly went through this, entered the information for my monitor and prayed that I didn't mess up any of the other information that you have to enter to get to it.
But nothing changed. Do you have to run startx? I tried that and it didn't work anyway. I tried ctrl alt +- after rebooting. Nothing.
I did find XFdrake which I believe is one of the things which was missing from the configuration of Mandrake but it didn't help either.
I dont like asking this, but is it possible for someone to tell me what entry to put in my Screens Section of the XF86config file?
