It seems like there are as many window managers as there are stars, and everytime I look some new hot window manager has just been released. I was wondering how most of the LNO people felt about desktop customization. Is something less configurable better because you can easily configure the fewer options you have, or would you prefer to be able to change everything at the price of praticaly coding your own window manager?

Configurability is the heart and soul of Unix. The day you take away my configurability will harken the end of the world.

I love cutomizing, and don't mind dealing with a bunch of config files. Currently I run blackbox/openbox but I'd like to hear what some of your opinions on the most customizable WM. I haven't yet seen anything as customizable as Litestep on Windows...but I haven't really looked. so, any ideas/recommendations?

Even though I don't use it much, and am a *box fan, the most customizable wm IMO is FVWM. There's nothing you cannot customize in it.
and what about enlightenment. i think it is one of the most customizable out there. you know all that kind of stuff you had with litestep( for those who know). every little tile was changeable as with enlightenment.
for me customization is everything!!!!!!!!!!!
but i am still searchinkg for a kewl wm. as of noe it is enlightenment. i have yet tried flucbox, window maker and enlightenment......
wanna hear more from you all

I prefer Fluxbox. I started with KDE, then went to flux, tried ion, pwm, and waimea but I still like Fluxbox. I think it's the most customized but the config files still aren't hell to mess with.

*lol* I voted and then checked the poll results. It's gonna be close. ;)
Ideally, it'd be completely customizable and easy to do so, but even working at it is cool. Only tried a few wm's but it's one thing I love about them. Linux at the command line can be almost anything you want it to be - then X is practically a blank slate - then the wm is an anything-you-want. As an end user even when running a stacked up GUI I still have a lot to do with what it looks like and how it acts. Everybody's kind of a co-creator of their boxes, along with the actual coders.

Everything in linux is easily configurable, just hack the source and recompile.
