This is an error I get on first logon to my Caldera OL WS 3.1.1 with kde2. When I first login, kde fails to start completely, i.e. the logon process goes some way and then blanks out and puts me at the logon screen again. I see the following in ~/.xsession-errors:

/usr/X11R6/bin/kde2
DCOPServer up and running.
_IceTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_IceTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running
KSMServer: Error listening for connections: Cannot establish any listening sockets
KSMServer: Aborting.
kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children.
KLauncher: Exiting on signal 1
kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children.
kdeinit: Exit.
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 1105, errno = 0

What is happening? Can someone please explain? A subsequent second logon always works. This error does not occur for root or the other two users on this system.

Post a copy of your .xsession file.

Also how did you set up this user account?

I cannot find a .xsession file in my home directory.

This account is one of the 3 defined during setup along with the root account. No special privileges granted.

Furher, if I try logon again, I get through and the .xsession-errors shows only a success message.

I also have a .ICEauthority file in my home directory. What is this file ? Th esize now is 167 bytes and can only be seen in the binary editor and contains strings like MAGIC COOKIE etc. Is this some kind of hacker attack / virus?

Appreciate your response. Thanks in advance.
