OK. I have had Linux on for less than a week and I am in love! Why I never tried this before is beyond me now! Anyway, on to my question(s):
I currently have a Windows XP box connected to the internet via a RoadRunner cable connection (USB) and the same said box is currently functioning in my house as the Gateway/firewall computer for my home network. XP created the home network set up discs for all the other (2) computers in the house that are sharing the network connection and filesharing on my home network, and all that works just fine the way it is, but...
Now I have this new Linux box setting in the corner making all the Windows boxes Jealous at all the things it can do, BUT... It I dont have it on my home network or a way to connect it to the interrnet, YET....
My question is what is the best way to do this? Should I leave the rest of my home network alone and just try to connect it as if it were another computer connecting through my gateway machine? Or should I tear my network down and rebuild it with the Linux box as the gateway machine? Is there some other option? What about filesharing between my Win boxes and my Linux box?
All my boxes have Ethernet NICs installed and (presumably) working ...Linux recognizes the card and trys to connect to a network but isnt connected just yet (I dont want to screw anything up). I also have a Netgear 4port hub connecting all the other computers. Where do I go from here?

Using linux for internet sharing isn't so hard now that there are gui firewalls like firestarter, shorewall, guarddog, etc. As for the total networking samba and webmin are a popular combination. I have never gotten past internet sharing so you will have to search on samba, read the manuals/docs for help on using samba. You can check out firestarter from the link below. I have had very good luck using firestarter, just make sure to use the version which matches your version of gnome.

You need to use the Samba server to talk with the Windows boxes. I use the GUI frontend LinNeighborhood (http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/) to configure the sharing between PCs on the network.
