Hello All,
Curious if anyone thinks linux on an 8600 is a worthwhile endeavor? I am thinking of ditching macos9 because I'm not familiar it and it does not seem as stable as linux. I find myself rebooting alot.
Am I alone in thinking this? Is there anyone out there with experience using yellow dog or suse on mac?
Thanks for the advice......

I am concerned that a PowerPC 7500, which I had installed YellowdogLinux sometime ago. I was trying to venture out to other distros, but sadly my machine was not compatible. So, I am back To YellowdogLinux. So far, I am quite satisfied with it. Except for the problem I am experiencing with VNC.
YDL is based on Red Hat 7.3. However, finding RPMs for PPC is rather difficult. Almost impossible in certain cases. I am not an advanced Linux user, so I usually look for ppc.rpm :D
Assuming that you are an experienced Linux user, you will certainly benefit from YDL, or other distros. If you are looking for stability.
I fully understand your frustration with MacOS 9. But, by switching to Linux, you will also lose certain benefits that Mac OS 9 offers, such as ability to work with graphics. Or, the simplicity that MacOS 9 offers.
Then again, it all depends on what you are going to do with it.
One cannot compare the two, in my opinion at least.
On the other hand, you could always run both. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.

One other route that might work is to download .src.rpm files, and use rpm to build your own .ppc.rpm packages.
