Hi Group:

I'm getting a bit confused and could use a pointer in the right direction.

I want to fire up an Apache server again, and this time I would like to build php capability into the server. Eventually I would like to do some mysql database serving throught php and apache.

My problem is this. I'm not sure which has to be compiled and installed on my linux box first--- php or apache.

There's quite a few ./configuration options for both php and apache, and I'm getting bogged down over which things need to be compiled initially and which things can be recompiled later for configuring apache to work with php and vice versa.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and patience.

Currently I have apache 1.3.27 and php 4.2.3 untarred and ready to be installed. My distro. is Slackware 8.1 with a few upgraded packages-- nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Y'know what Folks, hold off on your responses for a bit.......lemme see if I can actually get this thing done right by following the NHF's in the Webserving section.

Maybe if I just go slowly through those, I'll get a good basic install that is still open for more configuation later.

Thanks,

Mike
