Heh... let's try this again. Just curious as to what you all think are the lamest repeat threads here at LNO.
And Please, this time, don't use the p-word that got the last thread deleted, whatever it is.
EDIT: Oh! And if I missed anything, just state it in your post!
EDIT 2: Blah! Forgot a major one. "Stupid polls like this"
If you wish to vote that as an annoying tread, just post a message with that as the only line.

oooh...so many choices.
kde/gnome and which distro are def. up there.
but I could still pass those up as "uninformed consumers"
the religious ones...I havent stepped into those, so they're only annoying b/c they take a slot away from actual questions.
the whinners...yeah i can stand those sub-humans. can't. i dont care how much humanity can take. whinning has always been humanities downfall.

well, I would have to say that the most annoying thread is the cry babies who can't figure out Linux (lin-ucks) and go back to windows. actually it is sad, if you think about it. my 15 year old son, started playing around with rh7.3 and now refuses to even touch windows. if a 15 year old can figure this out, then you can't help bu feel bad for the older ones who can't.
the others, i just ignore or have fun with.(threads)

BaVinic,
I agree cry babies are really annoying, people like this assume that linux is going to be & work just like windows, they forget that it takes a little time & effort to try something new. Whining does no one here any good:( I love helping newbies but not whiners
I would also have to include the thread how can I mount my NTFS drive in RH 8? A little forum search would answer this and many other questions

Gotta say those bloody religous threads :) Everyone knows Debian is best. With Fluxbox, eterm and nano. Oh, I can't get this to work- I'm going back to my Mac. And I hate posts like this one.

How about:
"Every time the -Which Distro is Best- question is asked, another newbie joins the fold."

lol, now I am guilty of the nvidia question, but it was a little more than just the standard nvidia problem, I had some weird stuff goin on. Why should I care that somebody is going back to windows? I missed the days when everyone thought that computers were hard and we didn't get people plastering the www with junk

The topics by people who do not know and/or don't want to know how to configure Linux, and go back to Windows because of it.
No one ever learned linux by complaining that it is too hard to use. It took me about a year to learn the basics of Linux, enough in fact that I took the plunge and installed Slackware. I spent most of today configuring Slackware (thanks to the helpful people, and NHFs here at LNO, you people are great!).
If people would actually try to make an effort into learning Linux, there would be no need to go back to Windows full time. Linux isn't that hard, contrary to what some people may think. Especially Red Hat and Mandrake, those distros make it easy(ier).

Religion threads, for or against, I don't care. For awhile it's getting on my nerves when people started flaming MY religion and OTHER peoples religion, some respect people... It would have been better if there were a decent religion thread WITHOUT flaming and putting down other lnoers. This is a linux forum for crying out loud, religion is too delicate a thread to be posted even on /dev/random (yes, I'm aware that this /dev/random is meant for everything and anything else).

You forgot my personnal pet peeve: simple questions which could be answered much quicker using LNO's SEARCH function. If I had posted a question each time I've found the answer by a search my number of posts would tripple.

I agree. Why do people feel the need to inform everyone they are ditching windows and giving them a reason why? Do they think we care? Do they t hink thier discriptions of the problems they have, like "Linux crashes too much" (beyond me how they say this... my current uptime is 2 months) that perhaps they'll have other people join them?
Seriously, though... I've uesd linux INSTEAD of windows for 8 months now, and it's been perfect. Open Office is great, I can make spreadsheets for my business class, and open in in Excel, no problem.
Basically, if you look hard enough, anything windows does has a Linux equivalent... just gotta look hard enough!

If the new one was 'All of the above', then I am the first voter. Asked to rank them, Which is Best is first, followed by 'Shameless Exclamation'. I could care less what OS anyone uses. I use Linux. If you had a bad experience with it, sorry, go back to Windows, no hard feelings, I could care less.
How to Install Linux and XP/95/98/Me/etc, Dual boot question along same lines....There are 42 quadrillion posts (well, a few anyway) telling everything everyone could want to know.
NOTE: This does not include the DUAL boot problem posts since most of them are unique problems.

Yeah, I've noticed that about a few members. Especially those with a post count in the hundreds, but their "registered" is the same as the current month. If they spent more time hacking and less time yacking, they'd probably solve their own problem and get much more satisfaction in the process.

Just to add one more thought to this---people who want you to do it all for them, without them ever having to strain their brains or f@%k something up and actually LEARN what they're doing.

One of my personal favorites I have seen on irc...
"hey!! Could someone please send me libblahblah.so.1!? I need it to install this rpm!"
Havent seen much of "can you do it for me" here, but another board I frequent, cboard.cprogramming.com, is shock full of requests. And I don't just mean my usual post the code, ask if they see something missing, or to give me advice, but not the solution. I mean, you see posts like "Create a function that uses pointers to sort through a list of numbers sorted in a file. Please finish by Wed." <---- WTF!?

you killed the fun...the idea's to get the MOST annoying. that all of them ARE annoying is a given. Now you just made it easier for everyone else. oh well.
<runs to avoid an admin slap>
I have a different idea for an addition. Some ppl have Q's which can be answered by an LNO search. but there's those Q's that can be answered by a man pages! (eg. "how can I use cp recursively")

Ignore them if you don't like them. Those that are new to Linux might have questions that seem lame or annoying to you. Just remember when you came from windoze to Linux, and all the lame questions you had. You encourage people to use, then shoot them down for asking. I think that the annoying people are all you poop talkers.

I'm kinda sick of the MS Linux threads. Some still think they are probably the first Linux users to come across MS Linux and will we ever be surprised when they post about it at LNO.
As for the MS ads...
Same as me saying why are they showing women's tampon commercials on tv when obviously I have no use for them. The tv networks should filter the ads for each household. Right?

Those who exclaim that Linux is too hard and that their going back to windows generally don't ask questions, they just whine and never post in their thread again.

I went with Which distro is the best?
Could have been all of them but then again, I have no problems with religion thread.
Its generally annoying that people post first before asking.

Shameless exclamation they are going back to Windows because Linux is unstable, crashes constantly, runs slow, costs too much, etc
You know, most of the people who post these kinds of thread just want to take their frustrations out on someone, but some post them because they want to be talked out of giving up.
I've seen threads like this rack up 30 or 40 flames, then someone comes along and says, "I understand your frustration, but you can get so much out of linux if you just don't give up." And lo and behold, the thread starter comes back, calms down and give it another shot.

I resemble that remark. :D
The reason I don't use my real name is that there are probably 2-3% of the people here who I don't want to give my real name to. I give it out to people I trust in PM, etc, but don't feel comfortable, especially, the first time I join a group giving my real identity away. Not justifying it, but my reason only.
