A newbie with a question..

I just switched over form winXP to Mandrake 9 (yay!!). I am having a couple problems, even though they aren't to bad, I would like to know if they can be fixed.

1) Lexmark z45 printer is found, but will not print. Wazzup with that?

2) Screenblanks or a screensaver starts after a while, even with screensaver stuff disabled in root and all users. How can I stop this?

3) XawTv. In fullscreen mode, I have alot of black around the actual video. Is there a way to actually get it to fullscreen (video corner to corner, top to bottom, left to right...fullscreen)?

So far I am very impressed even though I am using a newbie distro, and I don't want to have to go back to windows for anything, but the printer thing will kinda make me do just that.

BTW.. Just in case there are questions about my setup, it is: Athlon 850, Geforce2 64meg, 30gig maxtor, 40gig maxtor, 768meg RAM, 16x DVD, 16x CD-RW, ethernet card (obviously)

Any help would be appreciated.

1)about the printer, as I work under RH8, I am not very sure about the MD9, but I think you can find a tool like printer manager, or print config, you should set the printer by it and have a test. I think your printer should work will with linux.

2)if you have disabled the saver form your settings, you should check the power manage in you COMS setting,

3) about xawtv, I have the same problem more than 1 year ago, then I have given up the full screen mode. 8-(

I got it. at least for now. Here's what I had to do.

For xawtv, I ended up switching to grabdisplay instead of overlay. I now have fullscreen when I hit F.

For the printer, I ended up using http://127.0.0.1:631/ and deleting the printer. I then reinstalled it and printed a test page. So I guess it works now..hehe

For the screensaver, I ended up dropping to commandline and typing
killall xscreensaver. This gave me the
xscreensaver: no process killed reply

So far everything seems to be working, hope it stays that way. Thanks for the help though.

I thought the killall xscreensaver worked, but it didnt. I ended up going to the power settings in COMS, and the power management was enabled. I turned it off, works now...
