windows has finally worn out its welcome on my SONY VAIO pcg-nvr23 laptop. Dropped in debian 3.0r1 cause the only other distro i had lying around was red hat 6.2. no brainer anyways, install debian. but i ramble. i'm having a hard time getting the sound to work. i believe it has a via vt8233 audio chipset, however winblows detected it as some yamaha. just wondering if anyone knew how to make it (the audio) work

I don't have a Vaio or the vt8233 soundcard, so I'll just suggest you try these G4L search results for 'vt8233' (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=vt8233&btnG=Google+Search) as you should be able to find what modules/drivers the vt8233 requires.

Also try searching the LNO forums as I have seen the vt8233 mentioned quite a few times.

Try http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/sony.html - they don't have your particular model listed, but you mind find that one of them has the same chipset.
