I'm running RH 8.0 and I have a Netgear card. Occasionally my ethernet just fails out of nowhere, and programs that use the connection (ssh, netstat) run very slowly or freeze. De-activating the card in RH's "Network Device Control" and then reactivating it fixes the problem temporarily. Any ideas on what I should do? (I am a complete newbie.)

I am having a similar problem with a 3 com card. I myself am kind of thinking that the card is about to just flat out quit. It will be working fine and all the sudden I have no IP connectivity. My link is still up...but I can't ping anything. So, I'll give you the same advice I am going to take myself and that is get a new NIC. They are cheap. You can pick one up for @ most $20.00.

I do recommend people stay away from SMC NICs as I have had nothing but problems with them. But you can pick up a D-Link or Linksys NIC real cheap. I have never tried those as I myself am a 3 com nut.
