Hey all! This is my first post, and it relates to something that has been bothering me a LOT. This is probably my 5th forray into Linux. I previously tried Mandrake 7.3 and 8.0 but this time I'm using RedHat 8 and I LOVE IT! I have successfully gotten Apache up and running and have done some other general things that I never managed before in Linux.

I really really need the Java SDK though. I do all my coding in Java and also need support for applications like Limewire. The SDK 1.4.0_01 came with RH 8 professional (Don't you love knowing more than the IT teacher at school? Having a source for such software is convenient, and I think the faculty realizes that giving me software keeps me from correcting the teacher too often)

After about an hour I figured out how to move the .bin file off the CD-ROM and then run it (Who the HELL would have figured out that you had to type ./ then the file name?) and then I double clicked the .rpm file and now there is a bunch of neato misquito stuff in my /usr/java directory, but when I go to the command prompt and type java and javac nothing happens.
Also, when I try to run the binary that I downloaded for the newest copy of Limewire it tells me I dont have Java support.

Do I need to, like, register new commands with BASH or something?

I know VERY VERY little about Linux. I have probably used Linux for a total of 6 days outta the two or so years I have been experimenting with it. You don't have to start at the "ls will list your files..." level but keep in mind I am still VERY newbie

Any and all help would GREATLY be appreciated

My AIM is "Starmanu1tra" if anyone would be kind enough to chat with me ... I would love you forever (In a very heterosexual way ;) )
