i thought it was "nome" since the word "gnome" is the correct spelling for the mythalogical creature

(i used to use gnome 2 but converted to fluxbox a while ago)

It is pronounce Nome, like those Lawn Gnomes. The G is silent.

According to the GNOME FAQ (http://www.gnome.org/faqs/users-faq/index.html#AEN38), "guh-nome" is the "correct" pronunciation, just as GNU is pronounced "guh-noo." However, I find that both of those sound "guh-stupid," so I generally stick with the lawn ornament pronunciation for GNOME and just say the letters G-N-U.

So many LNO members have submitted questions that are still waiting for replies and you post a question on how to pronounce Gnome?

I guess that's why it's not called 'linuxnewbie.org' anymore. It takes less time to ignore a post you think is unnecessery than it does to reply.

I don't fault a site for the opinions of it's members, but when a moderator is seemingly discouraging the posting of basic questions, it certainly discredits the 'newbie-friendliness'.

I'm just getting started in linux myself, and I've found a lot of good info here. And while the overall tone is a bit friendlier than some other sites, the whole RTFM attitude seems completely counterproductive. If you think someone's questions is stupid, perhaps you should ignore it and answer one you deem worthy.

Any time a question such as this is posted, everyone seems to only bother responding to that one and then all the other 'more important' questions are ignored.

Moving to /dev/random where it should have been posted to begin with.
