Hey there, i'm about to reformat windows and i'm gonna install winxp pro, and for the first time i'm gonna install red hat 8.0. My question is how big should the partitions(s) be for linux. I'll be installing it after i install xp. Also, I'd appreciate if you could give me some tips on how to dual boot. Thanx in advance.

How big is your HD? I would split the drive in half.

There are lots of options with 80g ...

Install the OS on a NTFS partition of maybe 20g or so.
Create a FAT32 partition to save data files and to share between linux and winxp of maybe 30g or so.

Leave the rest unpartitioned and then have RH auto partition it.
or it let you partition it your self do.
The most simple scheme is 2 partitions
a root / (everything else)
swap (2x RAM size but if you have a ton 512mb will do)

See the NHF for more details
