OK. I went with Mandrake. No one replied to my last threat, so I figured it will be dead easy.
Everything went OK, until I got to the installation device part. I naturally went with CD-ROM. It came back with an error that the CD-ROM drive couldn't be found!
Then a window with quite a number of drivers popped up.
What's going on here?!
Could anybody please help me with this phenomenon?

After trying numerous times, I have finally decided that my machine is not compatible.
I'd decided to give it another go this morning. It found my CD-ROM! Then, there was another error while searching for installed devices.
So, after two weeks of trying I finally gave up.

did you try looking @ the mandrake hardware database http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/fhard.php3 & see if you could find a version of mandrake that is compatible with most if not all of your hardware? I haven't used a Mac in like 6 years so I am not too familiar with any OS or hardware past OS 8.1, If you want to look for another linux distro that is compatible with mac hardware do a google.com/linux search or check out http://www.distrowatch.com/ & look for a PPC compatible distro
just my .02:D

good luck

Thanks for you advise bosox79!
In fact, I have. I am trying out SuSE, and I am experiencing another problem. Whether I choose text installation, or graphic installation, I get an error message. Which leads me to believe that it might, definitely, be my machine.
I was trying the FTP installation method, BTW.

I have tried both text and graphical installation. Each time it returns an error message, "an error during installation".
I just cannot seem to be able to go beyond that for some reason:confused:

Well, the whole thing started with YDL. I was using YDL, then I, foolishly, installed VNC. I was having a display problem, so, naturally, decided to kill it. When I tried to restart vncserver it returned an error message;-

"Warning - :1 is already taken"

Naturally, I tried to kill :1. I couldn't. I simply couldn't get rid of the bloody thing!
Then, I tried to look for its directory. "Directory not found", it said. I finally decided to get rid of it. RPM not installed, it said.
After two weeks of frustration, I'd decided to reinstall YDL. When I got to the partitioning part of the installation procedure, I received a warning the any hardware had suffered a fatal error. Another week had passed. I decided that there should reformat my hard disks and clean install the whole thing. The same result!
I have ran diagnostics. The machine seems to be fine.

I need to sort my emotions out. Then I will give it another go.
I came. I saw. I shall conquer!

Hitchhiker,

I am sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble finding a PPC version of Linux that works for you:( what type of hardware do you have? what are your spec's? I would check out this thread http://www.linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79044&highlight=PPC

& see if it has any useful info for you, I am sorry I haven't been able to be more helpful but if you post the info I asked for I will attempt to help you further.:)

I have a PowerPC 7500/100
-originally 100 MHz G3. Upgraded with NEWER TECHNOLOGY 480 MHz G3.
-1 GB HD and 4 GB HD, both SCSI
-1x (read speed!) CD-ROM
-10Tethernet card
-aftermarket PCI USB card

That's about it. It was a little too large to be a doorstop, so I installed Linux :D

Actually, I have discussed the matter of the aftermarket processor. Many had agreed that the processor would be compatible. It was indeed.
I was able to install and use YDL 2.3, until the problem with the vnc server surfaced.
