Providing the LNO members with a relevant subject line does help. Uber Newbie... does not really tell us anything about what you will be asking inside the thread. BTW... I edited the subject.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. ???
If you search around the LNO forums for 'installing software' and 'dualboot' etc. you should find quite a few previous threads that will help.
Have a look throught the NHF's.

Sure, what I meant by that is how can I get rid of the window pop up which tell me that Im not authorized to open a folder. I think its the admin rights. I want to give a user administer rights, if possible.

most of your answers are already answered a ton of times. do a search on here, or at www.tldp.org
It is generally a GOOD idea to not have permissions to everything. there is a user known as root, who does have persmissions to everything. A virus / trojan that gets access to the root account gets the ability to trash your entire system.
gnu parted can re-arrange your partitions for you...

you're still thinking in Windows Administration. First of all, the only user that has god-like permissions is root, so if you really had to you could run stuff as root. BUT, this is not what any *nix is about:
1. You should not need to access the "restricted" folders/files on a daily basis. Maybe you should read up a bit on how *nix structures everything (find out the purpose of /home /bin /usr /etc /var, etc.)
2. When you DO need to access resticted folders (because you are doing some administrative work - installing programs, etc.) then you can "su" in the terminal to give you a temporary root account in that terminal.
3. The idea behind *nix security - give a user enough power to allow work to be done, but no more than necessary (think of a very short leash).
4. ^I recommend you read up on some stuff through the man pages (in the terminal: "man program_here"). Some things to start you off?
man chmod
man chown
man chgrp
read up also on "gid" and "suid"
lastly, get some good introduction tye manual to linux and linux security to get you started. http://www.tldp.org/ and "RUTE" come to mind.

Thanks alot guys I really appreciate. Its not that hard to get information, but its better to be backed up with information thats a bit more clearer, some of those guides expect you to know something and then they come up with some term or directory that I have no idea what they mean. Im going to check out those links and try my best. thanks again :)
