Screen freeze on install

hello,

Installing Mandrake 8.2 on older P133, using recommended install option. All was fine until a long delay on loading xfree86 server, after delay screen said "error loading xfree86 server" do you want to continue Y or N? I said yes (hindsight-bad call?) now only red, green, and blue vertical stripes visible. Has been like this for a while. Help!

ctrl-alt-backspace should exit out of X and back to the commandline.

Did this happen during the initial distro installation and configuration of X or after the install was complete?

What video card do you have and is it supported by the version of X included with Mandrake 8.2?
