Hello,
I have installed RedHat 8.0 personal onto my Sony PCG-FX101 Laptop (dualbooted with Windows ME). The installation went fine with no errors.

When starting up, the bootup sequence runs through upto the point where is says "Bringing up loopback interface:" then won't move past it.

I have not yet seen the linux desktop.

I would appreciate all replies on what could be wrong and what i can do to sort it out!
Thank you,
J.

When it asks, select 'I' for interactive startup. When it gets to eth or nic configuration, bypass it. I think is is stalling on your nic card.

I hope that helps.

I hit the same problem first time I installed 6.1. The timeout was set to 30 minutes. :-)

Hi

Once you get Linux up and running, you might wanna try to disable the loopback interface so that everytime it boots you wouldnt have to press I...

Lauch a terminal and as root type in redhat-config-services.

I cant be sure of the name of which service you might need to disable but there should be a brief expalnation of each service there in the window.

Luck:)
