Hello All,

I am at this minute reading the Mandrake 8.2 install docs and the "warning read me" section warns about data loss, windows partion safety, etc. Using the Drakx install will I be asked if I want to keep any part of the box windows or not?? I don't need the box for windows anymore, but a friend mentioned "Samba" as a good learning experience, so if possible I want to make the 2nd hard drive on the box accessible over my network. This is not mandatory for my needs but a learning opportunity is welcomed.

Any advice welcomed, (soon is important as I really wan't to try this system out today)

Thanks,

Brian

Samba is for file/print sharing between networked pc's (Linux and Windows) and not meant for file sharing on the same pc.

If you want to keep Windows installed on the same pc you are installing Linux on, you can setup dualboot and also mount your Windows partition in Linux to share files.

Most distros will wipe out your HD if you don't choose expert/advanced.

just a suggestion go with mdk9 instead

partition of some freespace and just use the freespace option in the basic install you wont need to be a expert for that and you wont have to worry about corruption on linuxs part
