Hello List,

This is my inaugural post to your forum. I am a member of several developer forums (Dreamweaver,FileMaker FSA, Cache') and am aware that each group follows certain conventions in their postings, please excuse any "toe stomping" on my part until I get my Linux legs under me.

Question 1) In order to assist a current FileMaker customer of mine I need to load 1 box in my office with Linux to enable viewing of an opensource accounting package. I have an old box in the back, circa 1995, that I use as "the closet under the stairs" on my network, it is a Gateway Pent 133, 2 1.5g West. Dig Ide hd's, 96mg (although under M$98se only 80 recognized), Cms tape drive, SMC 10/100 nic, 4x cd, STB sound and vid cards, would I be foolish to assume I could get Mandrake 8.2 running on this hardware. Or should I quit being cheap a get a better box!?

All opinions welcome, and appreciated.

Brian Kunau

I don't see any obvious reason why you wouldn't be able to use Mandrake 8.2 on that system. Since most of the hardware is from '95 it probably will autodetect it. I am not sure about he tape drive though.
