I have just installed mandrake 9.0 onto a computer. Their is a warning that comes up that initially looked like their was a boot virus. As I read the warning I discovered that the warning was for boot viruses and non-compatible operating systems. I have rebooted this computer several times and have opened and played with several programs. I can not see any problems. The only reason that I can think of is that before I put mandrake on this computer I had tried to put win98se onto it. The windows instalation froze so I decided to put only linux into the computer. My question is their really a boot sector virus or is it part of the failed windows instalation that is causing this? Should I reformat the drive? Wouldn't the drive have been formatted when I installed mandrake?

be sure of that there is no boot sector virus on your box.
a friend of mine had had the same problem a while ago.
he had windows installed before and then linux, exactly the same...well
anyway windows sucks ;)
if you want to get rid of the warning disable the virus check at bootup
in BIOS.
gone?

With the BIOS boot sector virus detector enabled anytime you write to it you will get that message.

You probably don't have a boot sector virus and as the previous post suggested if you don't want to see the message again disable it in the BIOS.
