Hi everybody, i'm a newbie @ linuxnewbie and I'm having problems with setting up Samba on our network... I've attempted to use smb 2.2.7 but had difficulties due to the fact that we have some XP pro and 2000 machines just come in which needed to go onto the domain, therefore i downloaded the samba 3.0 alpha. Everything was fine with my win 98 machines and below but still this problem with win XP/2000. First it required a "global admin user" to be set up... this i have done for 2 usernames, shaun and root. When i attempt to join the domain it asks me for this and it seems to pass through without a problem, but then it seems to lose the connection or something because i get "RPC Server cannot be found" and then i have to restart the smb related services for them to work again. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas

The only thing in my experience of samba that i can think of would be to make sure the accounts and users are correct in samba.conf file. 2000 and xp are big on security. i am using 2000 and mandrake 9, and there doing just fine.
