I found a Sun Sparcstation 5 at an auction and would like to run Linux on it. I started using Linux about 3 months ago and is still learning. Please advise which version will work on the Sparc platform.

suse supports sparc, you can get the isos at ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/sparc/7.3/iso
i prefer red hat myself but, i can`t find sparc support beyond zoot.

I have a SparcStation 5 myself, 80mb RAM, 100mhz, 2.1GB + 500MB hdds. I'm currently running Debian 3.0 on it, and it works beautifully.
Go to The Debian Sparc Port page (http://www.debian.org/ports/sparc/) to check out the details.
One thing, though: It's a fairly slow install, even if you don't install many packages. I think it took about 3-4 hours for me to get my system set up the way I wanted it...

I've got Debian running quite stably on my Sparc. How long do you thing it would take for emerge to build some of the packages that would be required for Gentoo?
If the build time isn't too slow, I'd consider cheking it out...

Having big probs with gentoo on a sparc ultra 80. I'm switching to redhat, cuz everything else seems too unstable or too painful.
