no sound in quake 3 arena

hi all, i followed instructions on desktop mandrake on how to play q3 in linux using a windows cd. linux runs great! about 100 fps. problem is, i dont have sound coming out when i play that game. all other games have sound. my music has sound. Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

Are you running it from a console or a terminal emulator (xterm, konsole, aterm, Eterm, or similar)? If not, do that.

Are there any messages printed about either sound, OSS, /dev/dsp, or anything like that? Post them.

no, no error messages. it just plays without any sound.

Im playing quake3 arena with a windows cd. i just copied the baseq3 folder into linux and ran the linux point release on it.

How are you starting it though? By typing quake3 into a terminal, or by using some shortcut thingy?

Type quake3 into a terminal and look through the (lengthy) output.

i just type quake3 in the command thingy in mandrake 9.0.

What does lsmod say? What about ls /dev/sound?
