I finally got Mandrake first ISO d/l on my 56K! (took almost the whole weekend of leaving the net on). Yay! But there's a problem with the installation. Boo!
After getting so far /w the install (barely gets into it) the screen blanks out and I get a message saying something like "Installation exited abnormally" followed by a few messages which say something about unloading files or something, and then it says "Now safe to reboot your computer"
PLEASE HELP!!

Did you get all 3 ISO images? did you verify that you have good ISO images by checking the MD5 Sums? look @ this link for help with that http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/verifyiso.html
also can you open the CD's in windows & see the files?
if you can't see the files on the CD or the MD5 Sums don't check out then your ISO is likely damaged & you will need to get a new ISO
check out sites like http://www.cheapbytes.com/ for pre burned CDR's that way you don't have to spend all weekend downloading ISO's:D
hope that helps;) I was typying my post when ashoksagar posted;)

ok, I never got md5summer running (it kept trying to open in python??) but I re-burned it, and the $#@% thing stopped in EXACTLY the same spot, so I know what that prolly means.... if I re-download the same file will it work ok, or do I need a completely diff mirror?......i don't know whether I wanna start d/l today...... does downloading in getright affect anything?

If you want to download the ISO check out linxiso.org (the same link I posted for the MDSUM) they have links to good mirriors:D
since you have dial up I would spend the money & get a set of CD's! getright will help you to resume your download from were it left off if you loose your net connection. Again go with the CDR's this is the safest & least time consuming thing for you to do IMHO ;)

I have never used these types of sites myself, becuse I have a fast cable connection. Anyway according to the cheapbytes site orders are shipped the same day if they are placed by 11AM PST
check this link out http://cart.cheapbytes.com/cgi-bin/cart/info.html?id=JY6yA26o
so I guess it's up to you:cool:

well, me, being the total dumbass I am, have decided to try, yet again, to download the #_%@ iso.
hopefully i got a good file this time.... i have an ETA of about 45 hours..... so don't try calling me for a coupla days, I'm a do my best to keep the net on full time (good thing Windows users works the way it does, if I have to d/c and leave, I just leave getright trying to reconnect, and whenever my sis logs into the net on her account, my d/l restarts!)
so, now it's a race between whether linux will d/l first, or I'll find a free day to come home and watch the cable guy hook up the new modem (since that's really all I need him 2 do, I don't need him 2 explain it)
WISH ME LUKK!
