2 Harddrives 1 with Win2K 1 with Linux

My computer is currently running Win2K. I was thinking about installing another harddrive and running Linux.

Will this work without problems?
What else should I know about this?

actually you have to pay attention that you dont overwrite your windows
partition (even if that would be better).
after you have installed linux you can mount the windows drive
to view the contents of the hdd. but this doesnt work vice versa
because windows isnt able to recognize the filesystem thats
used by linux.
