Do I need an AntiVirus client for my workstation?

After using Windoze for years it feels funny to download something and use it without scanning it for viruses.

I have a hardware router with a firewall and I am also using the software firewall provided with RH8.

If I need one, any recommendations with a nice gui?

IMHO

- you don't require a virus scanner for Linux unless you run as root - which you shouldn't do anyway :)

- if you already have a secure hw-router then get rid of the Red Hat firewall as it just takes up resources and doesn't really do anything for you.

- on my systems, i have f-prot antivirus scheduled to scan the entire system at 3:00 am when i am not on - and i also have chkrootkit scheduled to run after the antirus, probably overkill but i am not on when they run so ... :)

antivirus: f-prot
root kit checker: chkrootkit
