when running xterm in icewm, how would i make my xterm windows transparant? I've looked, and haven't found anything useful; there's something about doing it for eterm in here, but i don't have eterm, and man xterm isn't helping (or it's in there, but i missed it when reading it)

You can't. Xterm doesn't do transparency. If you want a transparent terminal, you'll just have to use Eterm, aterm, or some other terminal emulator with support for transparency.

bugger... I was afraid of that after I spent so long looking without finding anything :P Is eterm any good, or is there a better one with transparancy?

Eterm is perfectly fine. Personally, I prefer aterm, but I don't know as it's really any better than Eterm. I think Eterm actually has more features, but I don't use them, so I stick with aterm.

Ok, started using wterm since I had it and didn't feel like d/ling eterm.. i can get transparancy of a sort out of it by playing with settings, but it is transparant to the desktop background in ice, instead of the program window open below it. Is this a setting in X itself? I can find anything about it in the -info or man for wterm, but I've used skins for other progs that allow you to run them as transparancies over other running programs... I usually sit on IRC and do stuff in term windows, which is why I'm trying to get this working properly.

As far as I'm aware, X doesn't support that type of transparency. All it can do is pseudo-transparency, i.e. capturing the backgroundand putting stuff over it. I could be wrong, as I'm no expert on X, but I think you're out of luck on that score.
