Okay everything was going great, Im all happy Im using a Quake Howto, downloaded the Shareware of Quake 1 --(IM BRAND NEW) , very happy everything is going just like it says, I unzip the tar file and it tells me that there will be a file named quake.x11 --AND THERE IS! (Looking at it in Galeon and in the Terminal when I type dir for the directory) -- however when I type in terminal (AS ROOT or USER) quake.x11 like it says to do it says:
bash: quake.x11: command not found ..

this is not the first time with a game that I have had problems, its killing me!!!

The quake.x11 binary was compiled on a libc5 system. You can either install libc5 (not recommended) or get a newer build.

I know proquake (http://www.planetquake.com/proquake/) has linux binaries available.
