I have two users on my RH8 system: root and User. Both use KDE. While logged in as root I wondered if I could use Nautilus under KDE, so I started it up. Things worked great, except now everytime I log in as root the system starts up as KDE and then seems to switch to Gnome. I can't find where a change was made in a config file that would cause this. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

when you log out look and see if the box is checked that said save session. I don't use rh but mandrake has that box.

Yes, when I originally logged out the "save session" box was checked. How do I "unsave" the session and stop Gnome from loading on top of KDE? I have tried the Desktop Switchng Tool that comes with RH8, but Gnome keeps on loading.

That did it! I killed Nautilus and Gnome with the System Monitor and then logged out with the "save session" box checked. Gnome does not start up now. Thanks for the idea. I am now going to go look for the config file that holds the configuration data from the "save session" box.
