alright, I've downloaded Mesa-5.0 when I untar and unzip the whole mess, the configure script goes off without a hitch, I don't notice any major errors in the make but it seems that it patched it to an older version that I already had, at least that's what Tuxracer tells me... Soldier of Fortune runs cool, (other than some holes in graphics, which the README blames on an old Mesa) I know this is pretty vague, I'm going to try installing again, and see if anything happens.

if more info is needed please specify what exactly you need to know.

thanks

Why do you need to install Mesa seperately? It comes with XFree86 (or maybe it's DRI), I had thought. Plus, the version packaged with it is guaranteed to work with it.

well, I installed the Soldier of Fortune demo, and had some errors... the README said that a newer mesa would fix it, bit it turns out I just had to set the colour to 16 bit, now it seems I've messed some junk up, so I'll likely just re-install XFree86
