which does everyone prefer for graphic interfaces? I've been thinking of going to just a windows manager like fluxbox or GTk, rather than KDE3 which is what I use now... was wondering if anyone had any advice/ideas on good windows managers to use, or if i should just stick with kde/gnome for awhile longer.

Are you unhappy with KDE??
Most WM's like fluxbox etc. are designed to be 'wafer thin' ......common reasons to switch from kde or gnome is performance.
Check out the websites of the WM's you're interested in......make an informed choice

I recently switched to IceWM and am really happy with it.
But you need to make up your own mind based on as much info as you can get. So try the Window Managers for X (http://www.xwinman.org/index.html) site. There are many good links, lots of screenshots, very good info.

I'm not unhappy with KDE, but that's pretty much all I've used in all the Linux flavors I've tried... I use GNOME at work, and really don't like that, which is why I've stuck with KDE for the past year or so, but I'm trying to understand more about the system, and KDE puts too much between you and it; from what I've seen on windows managers, they're smaller, faster, and allow you a bit more interaction with your system than KDE... not that KDEs not really good, I wouldn't know half as much about linux as I do now (admittedly not much still) without KDE and WebMin to do the really hard stuff for me early on, but I want to move on and try more. That's half the fun of *Nix, right? :)

That's why I made my switch, too. But I made the switch after doing some research.
