after mounting ut cd1 open term su to root, then cd to were ever you placed the ut436.run, now type sh ut-install-436.run this should install the game if you say yes to usr/local/games/ut/.

If it does not install then you might want to check to see if your cd that you are mounting the ut cd is cdrom not cdrom1 or 2 or some other if some you might have to symlink the dev to cdrom so it knows to find the files off the cd it is mounted on.

I had to do same thing yesterday with mine cause my cdrom was not listed as cdrom? so I cd to /dev and checked out that cdrom is smylink to hdd in my case and made the smylink to it.

Good luck and Have some fun along the way.

:D

ps if you get it installed you can mount the 2nd cd and get the extra texures off it to make somethings look more better, just a thought.

Make sure the cdrom is mounted first.
If it still asks for the cd, run export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom (change /mnt/cdrom to wherever your cdrom gets mounted) and run setup again.

Sorry about reviving an old thread but circumstances prevented me from replying. How exactly would I run export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom(which is my mount point by the way?

Tried it both ways tried the goty and the the regular 436.run installers still asks for the cdrom and I have it mounted before I start. my mount point is /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/cdrom2.This is MD 9.0 I have the 2003 demo and it rocks on this machine in Linux as does Quake3 except for that bloody pb not updating.UrbanTerror mod runs great also..

Just wondering, but you aren't trying to install UT with an OEM cd that came with a Sound Blaster Live are you? I believe that the Loki installer has issues if you aren't using a retail UT cd.

No it's a retail cd and I solved the install by ds-abling Supermount
supermount -i disable and mounting it manually
mount /mnt/cdrom it installed without a hitch but nw on starting game get error couldn't set video mode, couldn't find matching glx visual. Wish I knew how to post the out put here. Thanks for the replies.Does anyone know what this error means?

Have you setup 3d drivers yet? What video card are you using, and does it support opengl. Once these questions are answered more help will come.

It is up and running now don't know what I did but just tried to start and it fired up and runs great.I am using the 44.03 drivers from nvidia. As I said I installed by disabling supermount and then mounting manually.I don't think I changed anything but when I fired it up to check out the error message to get a better idea what was the problem and it fired up and has continued to do so and runs even faster than windows. Thanks to everyone who replied and wish I had a better explanation why it started working.

Do you have any other games installed? If you do are they running alright ?If they are I would try to re-install the game.If not try running glx gears to see if your drivers are working, from a console type glx gears. As I am kinda new at this myself that's where I would start.
