I have q3a running just fine except for one annoyance.I run it a few times and punkbuster just disables itself and I cannot enable in the multiplayer menu again. How do I get this back ?

I had the same thing happen to me. I ended up rm -rf 'ing the .q3a/pb directory in ~ and reinstalling 1.32 point release and so far it's working fine. *Fingers crossed*
BTW, where do you play most often? I'm only of average skill and I wish I could find more QIII ers at the same level. It's not much fun playing against those that practice 8 hours a day:(

Oh ...and before I removed the .q3a/pb directory and started over I tried editing the seta_cl_punkbuster parameter in my q3aconfig.cfg file...set the value to "1" to no avail ...so thus far, the only thing I've found to work is what I mentioned above. Hope this helps. Happy fragging:D

I have tried reinstalling once with the same result and was hoping to have a better way.I guess I'll try it again and see if that works. On the other I'm all over the place ingame browser .I have only been playing since Feb. this year.E-mail me and maybe I can run a server and you can join or the other way around if your machine is fast enough.I run a P4 2.0 ghz. with a gf3 ti 500 and 512 mb ram. Thanks for the reply.P.S. do you like excessive?

I've tried reinstalling the game a few times and was able to get punkbuster enabled for a little while, but after exiting and loading up quake3 again, it's once again disabled. Now I can't even get it enabled at all... any ideas?

one suggestion that i used for awhile that worked was to start the game as root, which did work...for about an hour.

In the console before you join a game, does it let you do a "cl_punkbuster 1"? That should enable it from the console if you havent tried. Thats how i enabled it originally for my box and its run fine since.

I have the SOLUTION: (well most of it) the problem is that for some reason your ~/.q3a/pb/pbcl.so file becomes empty. (I have no clue why this happens) All you need to do is replace the file with a copy you keep handy (or for the obsessed, make a shell script to automate it for you). The weird thing is is that I've tried chowning the file to root and set it read only, but for some reason, it still gets deleted. For anyone who doesn't have a backup copy, here ya go.

note: for some reason this forum only allows certain files and tests by file extension, so i had to rename it to pbcl.so.txt

GAH, well it seems the file is too large (1/2 a meg)

so here is a link on my 13K/s upload: http://gaccm.is-a-geek.org/pbcl.so
