Hi,

Im looking to get this Belkin KVM (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=200342&pcount=&Product_Id=122285&Section.Section_Path=%2FRoot%2FPeripheralSharing%2 FOmniview%2E%2E%2ESwitches%2FOmniViewSOHOSeries%2F #) and just wondered if anyone has any experiance with it in Linux.
Ill be switching between XP and RH7.3 and a search shows that some switches have problems with the mouse.
It says certified for use with Linux and isnt cheap(£120), so anyone use one?

Also does it come with everything needed to connect to 2 PC's? I havent used a KVM before and i dont want to get it and then have to buy some more cables.

Thanks

Any

A friend at the office uses what I believe is the Belkin OmniView at work.

He only uses Windows, BUT I do remember him complaining something about the included cables. He had to purchase and use a set of better quality cables for some reason.

I have a Belkin Economy KVM and I use it to switch between my XP box and my Linux/BeOS/Random Operating System of the Day machine. I like it a lot, since it allows me to save money on those extra monitors and keyboards and mice. They only issue I've ever had is that constant switching between the two boxes while one is booting up causes the keyboard and mouse to lock up and start responding. Other than that, it is a godsend.

I use a Belkin KVM model F1DB102P to switch between Red Hat 7.3 and Windows ME. Occasionally the mouse misbehaves on the Linux box after a switch but pulling the cable out of the KVM and reinserting it cures the problem. It's a really useful piece of kit.

BTW I only paid £78 at PC World.

I picked up the omniview one with USB support believing that it meant it would take the usb keyboard and mouse in and send them out.... what it really meant was that it would take in a ps/2 keyboard and mouse and send it out via usb... but ordering it online I got it for cheaper than I would have paid for the lower model so I kept it... it has the nice feature of keyboard hotkeys to switch between the two computers but as other people have said there is a problem with the included cables... not that they aren't good but if I remember correctly it's that there aren't any....

Two people where I work have the exact same KVM switch you would like to buy.

They have problems with their mouse acting very eratic. It totally sucks in my opinion.

I have an old Belken KVM (made from steel), and it works kick butt with wheel mice and all other OS's I've had on it.....Linux included :)

Manhattan 4 Port PS/2 KVM Switch - Shares up to 4 keyboards, mice and monitors with one CPU or vice versa." $16.00 USD and it works great. this is definitely not top quality equipment and you do have to have the switch set to your machine while it boots (no emulating) but it fits my budget. Alot of cheap generic switches come from the same factory. not quality goods but good enough.

I've been considering a KVM to switch between my two boxes, but I've heard they can have problems if the connections are different types. One box has an AT keyboard connector that requires an adapter from my PS/2 keyboard. I have a USB mouse that requires a USB -> PS/2 adapter on the older mobo also (no USB support). The newer box has PS/2 keyboard, and either PS/2 or USB mouse. Anyone mix connections and adapters on a KVM with any success?
