I am new to linux and could use some help!!! Thanks in Advance... ShieldWolf 12-13-2002, 11:55 PM Don't be afraid to use Google. www.google.com/linux will automatically add linux to every search so that you will only find articles related to linux and whatever you search for. For example, I typed in counterstrike and got these results. (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=counterstrike&btnG=Google+Search). A quick glance at those led me here. (http://www.cheaplinux.net/cs_howto/cs_howto-1.html) . Good luck. tbirdkid 12-13-2002, 11:58 PM I dont want to run a server just play the game.. and i used google that is why i came here. iawix 12-14-2002, 12:19 AM http://www.transgaming.com/ has some a piece of software that will allow you to play CS under Linux. I haven't used it, just heard about it. <edit>It will cost you though...</edit> Gaccm 12-14-2002, 12:27 AM I'm assuming you bought the counterstrike version of half-life. Either way you should check out http://lhl.linuxgames.com. They have an easy howto that works for 99% of people to get HL (and HL:CS) up and running. If you already have HL installed and want to play CS, then just download the mod and open it with wine as you would any other executable. neobee 01-08-2003, 06:35 AM can you run hl / cs only with wine under linux ? or is there any native port ? Icarus 01-08-2003, 01:19 PM Originally posted by neobee can you run hl / cs only with wine under linux ? or is there any native port ? Yes and No wine or winex runs HL very well Valve does not want a port of HL on Linux, even though it might lead to prolonging the sales of HL even longer. I never heard their excuse for this and would like to know why also... Trade secrets that only the Windows Modders can know? cor 01-08-2003, 05:06 PM i dont think its true that they dont want a linux port-- if i'm not mistaken.. they were.. ah nevermind i'm thinking of something else-- NEVERMIND :-P iawix 01-08-2003, 06:29 PM I think it wasn't working under wine for a while because the anti-cheat software wouldn't let you connect to servers... my guess as to why Valve wouldn't want a native port would have to do something with that. Dealing with Win32 cheats is enough, they probably wouldn't want to have to detect linux cheats too. dreamlesstime 01-10-2003, 03:02 AM To play counter strike... you have to use wineX i managed to play counter strike on my redhat 8.. and it works great.... few minor problems, font etc... however ,once im in the game it works fine... being college student, i can't afford to pay for transgaming even though ti's only 5 bucks a month... :( try this site... i got my winex cvs from this server and it works.. just follow the direction.. Free WineX (http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia) Icarus 01-10-2003, 10:26 AM Originally posted by iawix I think it wasn't working under wine for a while because the anti-cheat software wouldn't let you connect to servers... my guess as to why Valve wouldn't want a native port would have to do something with that. Works great now, if only my internet connection worked as good as this does  justlinux.com
