I have just searched through some threads on RTCW here - I'm still confused whether wine/m$ is required?

I have read that there is a Linux native version, but that you need files from a m$ install? Other posts said the 'game of the year' edition was different - how? are any 3rd-party apps needed?

does anyone know for sure if I can run it natively without wine or m$ (I don't have access to m$ at all)?

Thanks in advance

All you need is the linux installer of RTCW,
assuming you have an accelerated driver for your video card.

The game will run natively on linux (no wine needed). But you need to get some files from an existing wolf install. The only way to get these is from wine, or a Windows install

http://www.3dgamers.com/games/returnwolfenstein/

Go here and get either wolf-linux-1.4-goty.x86.run or wolf-linux-1.4-full.x86.run. There are instructions if you click on the link next to the file downloads. Enjoy!

The original release has all of the files in one big .exe on the CD that you extract by running the setup in windows or using wine.

You can copy the required .pk3 files directly from the GOTY CD to your wolfenstein directory

Yes you need the pack files from a windows install.. then use the wolf-linux install posted above. Copy the pack files to the dir you installed wolfenstein, and it should work.

I have installed wolfenstein and upgraded to 1.4. When I launch the game the main menu will appear but when I try to start I single player game, my screen goes black as well. Do I need to change something with my video driver. Im using mandrake 9.0 with the Nvidia UDA I believe.

Open up a terminal and start wolf through that. Type : wolfsp and see what the last few lines say , should give you an idea about the problem.
