hi

i openend this thread to ask all of you what ftp client would be good to install on my internet gateway so that all other boxes on my LAN can access it.

the default installation of the ftp server im using from slackware doesnt work very good.

so what do you think?

OK, I'm no expert on what else you could use, but I'd like to throw in my two cents worth if I may!

I use RH8 and have used the FTP server without problems. There may be a problem with the slackware version, or there may be a problem in your config, I really couldn't say for sure. FTP isn't that complex a protocol so there isn't much to go wrong, but if you want to try something different, you could do worse that taking a look at http://war.jgaa.com/ftp/

I've used his FTP solutions under windows for several years and found them to be solid and dependable. I haven't tried the Linux version as yet, but I do know that Jarle Aase has a very good reputation and his work has been commended by several freeware and shareware sites, and more than a few reputable PC & computer magazines.
