I have an HP Deskjet 660 Cse and I was wondering how to get it working in Mandrake 8.1?
Right now all it does is nothing. I click print and nothing happens, no test pages work at all.
In case you need to know, here are my specs:
Athlon XP 2000+
256 MB DDR 2100
KT3 Ultra2 Mainboard
Linux is on a 5 GB hd

cups is a good choice,
try connecting to http://localhost:631
this should bring up a page where you can send a test page etc., it should be pretty straight forward after a few tries
post again what the reply is
if you can't connect there can be 2 things wrong: first make sure cups is running in your runlevel, and if you can't find it make a quick browse in /etc/init.d/rc5.d (for runlevel 5 if you have X running) and see if there is any S**cups etc. if you can't find any, maybe you should go back and check if you have cups installed and all (sorry for saying all this, you probably have this all running, I just don't know when I can post here again).

I would, if I could, but I cannot. I have a winmodem, and I cannot go online with linux.
Now you are probably going to come on here and tell me I can do it offline, in which case I will be extremely embarrassed. So if is the case, please say "yes" and do not embarrass me too much:):).

Yes. Let me explain why:
Localhost is your system. At port 631, cups sets up a basic webserver for local connections. Therefore, you can connect to it without the net.
Don't be embarrased about THAT.

Oh, okay, thanks!
I will try that.
Now you know how t configure cups but have you installed drivers for that.
