No major changes in system.

I got a:

Pentium 4 1.6GHZ
256MB Ram
GeForce 4 Ti4400
40GB HD With MDK 9.0 installed

The drivers I am using are the NVidia one, compiled from the Tarballs.

Quake 3 has been running great until a couple days ago, when Mozilla started crashing.

run mozilla from an xterm or eterm or whatever and post the output of the errors when it crashes. Maybe someone around here has been having that problem though. good luck with q3.

That is weird. I am running very similar setup and not having any problems. I just reinstalled the drivers from NVIDIA not long ago that they compilied for the OS. That would be only reccomendation at all.

You might try rerunning the nVidia driver installation. Mandrake has a tendency to rewrite your XF86Config-4 file for you -- which disables the nVidia drivers -- whenever you change certain less-than-related things on the system...

I don't see how Mandrake could stop using my NVidia drivers since the NVidia logo pops up everytime I boot.

Now a new problem.

If I leave my Linux on for long periods of time (like 13 hours) Quake 3 will not open, all I get is a black screen, and I have to restart the XServer. And then KPPP will keep thinking that my modem is busy and can't connect to the net at all until I reboot.

Maybe... But I usually do that anyhow. (closing GTK-Radiant when I need to test my map) Seems nothing helps.

3 things to do if all else fails.
1) backup all important files
2)Format Harddrive
3)Reinstall Quake 3

Just because the nVidia logo pops up, doesn't necessarily mean that nVidia 3D is in use. There could be problems with the glx extension that would prevent hardware 3D, but since you'd still be using the nvidia_drv.o driver, the nVidia logo would still show up.

It is true that Mandrake probably didn't rewrite your config file. But post (or just look through) your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file for messages pertaining to the nVidia stuff, that might be causing this kind of thing to happen.

Hmm, doesn't seem to be your drivers, from what I can tell...

Don't know what it is...

Nothing wrong with your drivers, try reinstalling quake (or at least remove the config file).

After mozilla crashes and Quake runs like a slug, does glxgears or 3Ddiag show a change?
