I am trying to install RH8. I have run scandsk and defrag and then run FIPS. The process works fine and I set the partition to have 4 GB. When I ask it to continue, it tells me there is a memory allocation error and could not load COMMAND and freezes. When I reboot, however, there is a partition, but it has not been formatted. I format it and then when I try to install RH8 it gives me a memory error when I ask it to automatically scan for partitions, etc. My question is...if FIPS can't do the job will Partition Magic? Or am I screwed regardless ;-):p

The message at the end of FIPS is totally normal. I just used FIPS for the first time, today. I gotta say that FIPS is a very powerful program for a DOS environment.
I'm dual booting Win98 and Slackware on my laptop. After FIPS created the new partition I went into Win98 and formated the new partition, ran scandisk on it just to check for errors. Then I ran fdisk in Win98 and deleted the new partition, rebooted back into Win98 so that it can see there's no other partition besides C:. Then rebooted and started the Slackware installation procedure. In Slackware, right at the beginning it displays a message to run 'cfdisk' or 'fdisk' to create the necessary Linux partitions. So I ran 'cfdisk', created the swap and root partitions and started installing the Linux packages.

I also have partition magic version 7, but wanted to give FIPS a try. Now, I have another utility for my Computer Guy toolbelt.

Never tried Partition Magic myself, it's always been FIPS and it's worked fine everytime.
Oh and I got that error at the end everytime as well:)

Thanks for the feedback. Okay...I run FIPS, I scan the new drive, I go to install RH8 and it tells me there is a memory problem (when I choose auto partition) and I need another partition in addition to the root...ah, huh?
