Never used Linux or even seen it! I've already partitioned my hard drive with Win XP Home. I have a formatted partition, empty, to install Linux 8 onto. I inserted my CD's to start my install and choose graphical option, then get message "Monitor: unable to probe", then the screen goes blank. Can anyone tell me what to do or where I might get info on how to install this onto my partition?
I have a Gateway 1.6G Pent IV , 512 RAM, 80G HD, Win XP/Home OS, CD-R, CD-RW, USB 1 & 2, External WD Hard Drive 80G. I use this for Backing up my music files, & an 18.1" LCD Monitor. I just re-formatted my internal HD and made 2 partitions using Win XP. I have all my Windows stuff on C:/ partition. I have saved my D:/ partition so I can install Red Hat Linux but can't figure out how to go about it. Like I said in original message. I've never used or even seen Linux, but want to learn how to use it. I bought a book called "Red Hat Linux 8 Bible and read it, but cannot figure out how to install it. The install CD's came with the book.
