here's the deal i get all the way up to where it asks for the cd's but it doesn't read em. before i burned the discs i opened the iso's and extracted the files to a directory on my windows box. should i just burn the unextracted iso's?

ISOs are images and for them to be bootable, the image must be burnt to the cd, not the extracted files. Also, make sure the md5sum matches to make sure you have a good download.
